Wild Impressions

The handcrafted pottery in our “Wild Impressions” collection represents a unique combination of functional elegance and natural beauty. The plates in this category are thrown on a potter’s wheel and allowed to dry to a “leather-hard” stage. Then, depending on the seasons, we gather various wild plants and flowers from our forest and fields and impress them into the soft clay to create an appealing and botanically correct ‘image’ of the plant. Each piece has a unique impression, no two are ever the same. After a plate or bowl has been dried and fired to a low temperature (1750° F, burning out the plant fiber), the impressed ‘image’ of the plant is filled in with colored ceramic stains. The piece is then dipped in a clear over-glaze and high-fired to 2380° F. These lovely plates and bowls with their vibrant ‘images’ of nature can be elegantly displayed on a table or on the walls of your home or are equally suitable for everyday use as dinnerware … reminding you at each meal or glance how exquisitely beautiful nature really is!

Most of the plants we work with are available seasonally, hence some of the plates we show here may not be in stock. If you purchase a plate that we do not have in stock, we will e-mail you or call to let you know.

Note: Since this is handmade pottery, you should anticipate that exact color and dimensions will vary slightly from piece to piece depending on the precision of our hands and eyes and the conditions of a particular firing. Hence the piece we ship to you will be similar to, but not exactly like the one displayed here.
